TOPIC: Why not use WAN PHY?

Why not use WAN PHY? 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Any one could give me reasons why an operator with enough fiber resources should deploy WAN PHY instead of LAN PHY in network links nowadays?

Is there any added value in doing so?

10G WAN-PHY was introduced to interoperate with existing OC192/STM64 SDH/SONET installations. It had the benefit of including the additional fault management capabilities that came with the SONET spec, and that LAN-PHY lacked at the time. However, now that Ethernet OAM has advanced into 802.1ag and Y.1731, LAN-PHY arguably offers better functionality for this purpose. WAN-PHY also used to cost significantly more, but todays transponders can be software configured to LAN/WAN-PHY so there is no difference.
