RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, AND PETALUMA, CA, March 6, 2012Overture, the preferred Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation partner for service providers and network operators worldwide, and Cyan, a global provider of packet-optical transport solutions, today announced a strategic partnership. The two companies are working together to give service providers the best possible tools to plan, build, operate, and verify Carrier Ethernet networks.

“Service providers are asking for an integrated solution for the edge, aggregation, and metro networks that offers simple service management and visibility into the performance of the services they are delivering,” said Jeff Reedy, CEO, Overture. “Cyan offers an excellent management solution to plan, operate, and verify network operations along with a very strong packet-optical solution for business services and mobile backhaul. Overture and Cyan are committed to integrating all our products into Cyan 360 management suite to help service providers build and maintain world-class Carrier Ethernet networks.”

“The Overture-Cyan partnership is the optimal combination of software and Carrier Ethernet expertise,” said Michael Hatfield, president and CEO, Cyan. “This collaboration brings solutions to the market that will fundamentally simplify end-to-end Carrier Ethernet networks.”

The relationship developed through a number of successful customer engagements where the two companies delivered proven interoperability for G.8032 Ethernet protection switching and MEF E-Line and E-LAN services. That led to the integration of the Overture 4200, 4300, 24 and 26 edge devices into Cyan’s CyPlan, CyMS, and CyPortal – which comprise the world-class Cyan 360 solution. The two companies are actively working to integrate additional Overture solutions into the Cyan 360 management suite.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, February 23, 2012Overture, the preferred Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation partner for service providers and network operators worldwide, said it welcomes today’s announcement of the MEF definition for Carrier Ethernet 2.0, the next generation of Carrier Ethernet. Unveiled by the MEF and Ethernet co-inventor, Robert Metcalfe, Carrier Ethernet 2.0 identifies a set of important new extensions to the first generation of Carrier Ethernet – now referred to as Carrier Ethernet 1.0 – that includes global interconnection standards, class of service, and service management features not present in the original.

“The emergence of Ethernet as the preeminent technology for communications services has been a boon to businesses and consumers around the world. Without today’s standardized, high-bandwidth, low-cost Ethernet connectivity, the development of many of our essential ecosystems, including the Internet and corporate networking would have been stunted,” said Jeff Reedy, CEO, Overture. “Built on the firm foundation established by MEF-compliant first-generation Carrier Ethernet technologies, Carrier Ethernet 2.0 signals a new wave of innovative services and applications that Overture and our customers are enabling.”

Overture previously achieved generation 1.0 certifications MEF 9, 14, and 18, and its solutions are already Carrier Ethernet 2.0-compliant. As the MEF creates certifications for 2.0, the company will demonstrate compliance through their certification program.

“We are fortunate to be working alongside our progressive service provider customers in the early shift to Carrier Ethernet 2.0, allowing them to deliver a better customer experience using class of service, performance monitoring, and wholesale interconnections. As we look to the future, we expect to bring even more improvements in those areas and to work with our customers to create an Ethernet that is even more scalable, reliable, dynamic, and simple,” added Reedy.
