Vertical Systems Group:
Ethernet Exchange Coverage Initiated
New research defines the Ethernet Exchange opportunity and forecasts market demand.

BOSTON, MA, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE... Vertical Systems Group has initiated coverage of the Ethernet Exchange market. This initiative includes latest research on drivers and risks, customer segmentation, deployment timing, and projections for Ethernet Exchange ports and revenue. Vertical defines an Ethernet Exchange as a carrier-neutral marketplace solution for standardizing and simplifying Ethernet service interconnection among Service Providers.

The Ethernet Exchange opportunity was evaluated utilizing Vertical's proprietary data and modeling tools. Demand for Ethernet services by speed and provider segment was reconciled with planned Exchange offerings, technology alternatives, and the purchase drivers of "Buying" and "Selling" Exchange participants. Projected Ethernet end-points were derived from Vertical's databases of enterprise network installations and commercial sites. Maps of end-point demand were overlaid to the geographic footprints of Ethernet providers to determine coverage gaps. This bottom-up analysis formed the basis for modeling Ethernet service delivery alternatives.

"Early trials of Ethernet Exchanges are establishing the viability of the interconnection technology and the strength of the MEF standards. Going forward, we expect that Exchanges will expand access choices beyond bilateral ENNI agreements, and help facilitate the connectivity of Ethernet services globally," said Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems Group. "Wholesale Ethernet providers are the early Exchange sellers, while the initial buyers will be CLECs, global, and specialized carriers with requirements to fill selected gaps in their Ethernet footprints."
