Telstra International has secured MEF 9 and MEF 14 certifications of the MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) showcasing the quality and performance assurance of the company’s suite of global Ethernet services.

The MEF is a non-profit international industry body dedicated to worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. It consists of over 160 organisations from leading service providers to carriers, network equipment vendors, and other networking companies, defining the performance and functionality requirements for Carrier Ethernet services.

MEF14 certification means that a Carrier Ethernet service adheres to premium performance characteristics including throughput, jitter, bandwidth profile and traffic management, while MEF9 certification verifies that an Ethernet service performs to the functional specifications and attributes as defined by the MEF. These tests ensure that Carrier Ethernet services will perform across multiple platforms and across multiple vendor solutions that are also MEF certified.

According to Gina Nomellini, Vice President, Global Products & Marketing Telstra International, the market for global Ethernet services increases every year and the MEF is playing a crucial role in assuring that service offerings run with the highest levels of performance quality and interoperability.

“This accreditation places Telstra International at the forefront of Carrier Ethernet development, and assures customers that our services offer premium performance and a rich feature set that is compatible with MEF-certified Ethernet products and services,” Ms Nomellini said.

Utilising the strength of its network coverage in Asia-Pacific, Telstra International offers some of the most far-reaching intercontinental Ethernet WAN services on the market, including Points-of-Presence in 15 countries around the world. Telstra International’s entire Ethernet portfolio - its Ethernet Private Line service, launched in August 2008, and its Ethernet Virtual Private Line and Virtual Private LAN services, launched in August 2009 – has been certified compliant by the MEF.
